“To a Mouse” by Robbie Burns, animated by Jim Avis

A wee animated version of my comics interpretation of Robbie Burns’ “To a Mouse” (1785), featuring an extremely Scottish recitation by actor Gareth Morrison.

The comic, along with 23 other such graphic adaptations, can be found in my new book, Nature Poems to See By: A Comic Artist Interprets More Great Poetry (Plough Publishing, 2026).

James and Julian, I’d love to see your processes. It’s cool that the scenes don’t have to be so detailed and busy, for me to empathize with beasts and nature. You’re both able to draw emotions with colour, movement, timing and more! THANK YOU for your creations.
