“In Flanders Field” by John McCrae (1915)

In honour of Remembrance Day, I am reposting my adaptation into comics of “In Flanders Fields) the famous WWI poem by John McCrae. The poem was originally created as part of my residency at the Victoria University of Wellington in New Zealand earlier this year: https://julianpeterscomics.com/2015/04/26/entrenchments-2015-daily-drawings-and-an-interview-with-radio-new-zealand/

  1. A very moving set of illustrations, which beautifully complement the poignant text by McCrae. Lovely work for a terrible subject!
Do you know the poem “The victory ball”, about the end of WWI? I’d love to see what you could do with that!

    • Thank you for alerting me to this AMAZING poem by Alfred Noyes. It’s true it is ideally suited to comics adaptation in many ways, because of all the dialogue and the vivid juxtaposition the dead and living characters. I just may do it one of these days!
      We mustn’t reproach ’em.
      They’re young, you see.”
      “Ah,” said the dead men,

A wonderful poem by John McCrae.

During my school’s Remembrance Day ceremony, I read this poem aloud and explained its significance. In front of 1000 people. It was intimidating but I’m very glad I did it.

Wonderful interpretation of “In Flanders Fields”.
